Alienware M15

Alienware M15 Gaming Laptop Intel i7-8750H, 15.6' 300 Nits FHD 144hz Refresh Rate -16GB, 2x8GB, 512GB PCIe M.2 SSD, RTX 2060 6GB, 17.9mm Thick & 4.78lbs

The Alienware M15 is another great gaming laptop if you prefer performance above everything else.

In addition, it has one of the best build quality made entirely of aluminium and it is lightweight weighing 4.78 pounds. The build quality eliminates flex but at the cost of being a fingerprint and grease magnet.

Performance is top-notch. An 8th Gen Intel i7 processor, 16GB RAM and a RTX 2060.

The RAM is dual channel so you can expect better performance than most gaming laptops with single channel RAM. You experience smooth gameplay on RUST and other AAA title games.

The display is a 15.6 inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) 144Hz. It doesn’t have GSYNC which is a disappointed and a good thing at the same time.

Without a GSYNC panel, you get better battery life at the expense of smooth gameplay. The high refresh rate display offsets this because screen tearing and stuttering is greatly reduced.

You are also able to achieve HIGH FPS on a lot of games, especially the less demanding games.

The laptop tends to heat a lot and because of the aluminium build quality the surface of the laptop also gets hot. This can make gameplay somewhat uncomfortable.

The Alienware M15 is a solid gaming laptop with solid build quality. Along with its powerful hardware that is able to deliver top-notch performance it is also lightweight.

The only things preventing it from being the perfect gaming laptop is its absence of a GSYNC panel and the tendency to run hot.

Pros

High Refresh Rate Display

Dual Channel RAM

Great Build Quality

Lightweight

Cons

No GSYNC

HP Omen

Omen by HP 2019 15-Inch Gaming Laptop, Intel i7-9750H Processor, GeForce RTX 2070 8 GB, 32 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD, VR Ready, Windows 10 Home (15-dc1047nr, Black)

This HP Omen is meant for those who want to play Rust and AAA title games on MAX settings. The HP Omen is not here to play.

A 9th Gen i7 six-core, 32GB RAM and a RTX 2070 Max-Q graphics cards. This laptop has a lot of power especially RAM making it a futureproof gaming laptop.

The storage device is a 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD. One of the fastest around and enough storage capacity for games.

To be honest, the 32GB RAM might be an overkill but it is definitely not a problem. Because you won’t be thinking about whether your laptop has enough RAM or not.

The display is a 15.6 inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) 144Hz IPS. High refresh rate coupled with NVIDIA’s GSYNC makes graphics look better and gameplay super smooth.

The laptop is also able to achieve a maximum of 144 FPS without tearing or stuttering during gameplay.

The battery life is also decent for a gaming laptop able to last 4-5 hours under normal usage.

Now for the negatives of the HP Omen. The laptop comes with a lot of bloatware.

You have to manually uninstall them for that you can check out how to completely remove Windows 10 bloatware. Also, the build quality is plastic with a little bit of flex.

The HP Omen is not a perfect laptop but what it does exceptionally well is performance. This is a laptop if you prefer performance in AAA title games above everything else. The Max-Q card also makes sure there no thermal issues.

Pros

High Refresh Rate Display

Amazing Performance

Thunderbolt Port

Cons

The Acer Predator Helios 300 is Acer’s flagship budget gaming laptop. Not only does it provide insane performance for its price it also has solid build quality.

A mixture of metal and plastic results in little to no flex to the screen and on the keyboard.

The non-mechanical keyboard is also a great feature. Yes, it is undisputed that mechanical keyboards have the best tactile feedback and key travel. But this one actually delivers.

When it comes to gaming performance the GTX 1660 Ti certainly delivers. A mid-range gaming graphic card.

It’s able to give you high FPS high settings on most AAA title games. Rust included. The processor is an 9th Gen Intel i7 six-core and has 16GB RAM.

The storage, on the other hand, might not cut it for you especially if you like to play or store a lot of games. It is a 256GB NVMe SSD.

A very fast one at that. It will boot up your machine very quickly, load games and applications fast thanks to its fast read/write speeds. It allows for fast data access and transfer.

On the plus side, you can swap out the storage device for a larger capacity.

Best Price-to-Performance Ratio

ASUS TUF FX504

Asus TUF Gaming Laptop FX504 15.6' 3ms Full HD IPS-LEVEL, Intel Core i5-8300H Processor, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060, 8GB DDR4, 256GB M.2 SSD, Gigabit WiFi, Windows 10 - FX504GM-WH51

The ASUS TUF is a revamped model. Previous versions were less powerful and had poor build qualities. ASUS changed that in this model. Featuring a more robust performance and great build quality.

An 8th Gen Intel i5 paired with a GTX 1060. The combination not only makes it affordable but also gives it the best price-to-performance ratio. In addition to that, it has 8GB of RAM and a 256 M.2 SSD.

The ram can be expanded up to 16GB. The M.2 SSD is a fast storage device but the downside is its low storage capacity. It might be enough if you tend to play a lot of games. Fortunately, you can easily upgrade it to larger storage capacity.

The display refresh rate is capped at 60Hz. Games will not go beyond 60 FPS even though tools that measure FPS might show higher. Also, there is an increased chance of screen tearing and ghosting if FPS becomes higher than 60Hz.

Too much screen tearing and gameplay experience become unpleasant. For the everyday gamer, this is not an issue. It becomes problematic if you are into competitive gaming.

The other negative aspect of the ASUS TUF is its poor battery life. Poor battery life is common in gaming laptop since they have powerful components.

Powerful components draw a lot of battery power. It shouldn’t be a surprise that the ASUS TUF is able to last 2 hours of normal usage.

The ASUS TUF is a mid-range priced gaming laptop that is able to deliver and get the job done. One of the best price-to-performance ratio gaming laptops out there.

Best Budget

HP Pavilion Gaming

HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15.6' Core i5-8300H 15.6-inch Diagonal Full HD IPS Anti-Glare WLED-Backlit Display(1920 x 1080) with Narrow Bezel Design 8GB RAM + 1TB HDD Storage 15-cx0056wm

The HP Pavilion Gaming is a budget gaming laptop. It is great for those on a tight budget but also wants to enjoy playing Rust or other games casually.

The build quality is decent with a mixture of plastic and aluminium. The lid is plastic and the palm rest is aluminium.

Since this is a budget gaming laptop the performance won’t be as powerful as high-end laptops. It has an 8th Gen Intel i5, 8GB RAM and a GTX 1050 Ti.

This will provide enough performance to run games on a decent FPS. The storage drive is a 1TB 7200 RPM. Even though it is a slow hard drive it has enough storage capacity to store games.

The display is not impressive as expected of a budget gaming laptop. It is a 15.6 inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) display.

The brightness is low and colour accuracy is a bit off. The battery life is decent able to last 3-5 hours of normal usage though you will need your charger at all times.

The HP Pavilion Gaming is a budget gaming laptop that fits the label you pay for what you get. It is not as powerful as the high-end powerful because of the outdated GTX 1050 Ti card.

And the fact that games are becoming more demanding with each passing year. Still, it will be able to handle most games on low to medium settings without any problems.
