The i9s have a higher core count which ranged from (10-18) cores depending on the generation and the class, but this makes it better at multi-core functions than the i7 which ranges from (4-8) cores.

The average amount of cores modern games require is 6 and could be less, which is entirely dependent on the title. This leaves the extra cores unused, which is basically throwing processing power away.

Clock speeds have to do with the number of operations which would be executed each second. A clock speed which is high would equate to a CPU which can handle more operations per second.

Most i9 and i7 processors from the past four years have quite similar processor speeds. The differentiator is when overclocking is introduced. I9’s tend to have an overclocking threshold which is above that of the i7’s.

When Intel initially introduced the i9, they meant to contend with the Ryzen 7 and Ryzen 9 which are absolute powerhouses, and intel has been able to create a processor which is able to trade blows with the best of the best.
