Every gamer knows the higher the frame rates the better the gameplay experience.
No one wants to play games on a laptop that gives you 12-20 frame rates per second (FPS).
That will basically make you want to tear the hair out of head. The only slow-motion that is appreciated is in awesome movie scenes and certain parts of the game where it was intentionally added.
But, what if you have a laptop that doesn’t give you decent FPS?
If you want to improve frames per second (fps) a lot of changes have to be made on your laptop. Here are 10 Ways To Increase Your Frame rates (FPS) in Games
What Are Frames Per Second (FPS)?
Frames per second is a measurement used in determining how smooth the performance of a video game is. It is also used in videos but we will be talking about games here.
Think of it as a picture slideshow. The pictures or frames have drawings on them which show every single action of a character.
If the slideshow shows about 10 frames each second then it moving at a rate of 10 frames per second or 10 fps. The same applies to show 50 frames each second or 50 fps.
The more frames are shown each second the better the gaming performance and smoothness. Playing games on low frames per second (fps) can negatively impact gaming experience because everything will start to lack fluid motion.
The minimum fps for a game to be enjoyable is 30 frames per second (30 fps). Anything lower and you might be frustrated.
How to Increase FPS on Your Laptop
Low FPS can be very annoying. It can make games unplayable and an unenjoyable experience.
There are several ways on how to improve FPS or optimize your laptop for gaming. Here are 10 ways.
Increase Your RAM
This is one of the most common ways on how to get more FPS. Increasing the amount of RAM you have on a laptop can help improve because a large amount of RAM can help the CPU process large tasks faster.
Although the increase in FPS won’t be that much unless you combine it with other methods it can make your laptop run games faster.
Update Your Drivers
With the exception of Nvidia graphics drivers updating your drivers can help improve your fps.
The reason why you don’t want to update Nvidia driver is that the software reduces the performance of your video card. Don’t believe me? Here is a video to prove it.
If you are an AMD user or Intel user you should definitely download the latest driver to boost laptop performance for gaming
Reduce The Resolution
Reducing the resolution can have a big positive effect on FPS. The higher the resolution the more pixels there are and the more work the CPU and GPU have to do to process information.
But if you lower the resolution there will be less information to process. The less amount of information the faster the CPU and GPU can process the information making games run smoother
Change Video Game Settings
Lowering the settings of your game can get you more frame rates per second. Adjusting the graphics quality to the lowest settings on games can increase your frame rates per second.
Yes, it might not look like a high-quality texture or a medium quality, but your frame rates will definitely be improved and you will get used to it.
Clean Your PC
Dust can cause overheating in your laptop which can result in thermal throttling. Thermal throttling occurs when your laptop becomes very hot that it either shutdowns or reduces CPU/GPU performance so that it can cool down.
Making sure your laptop is clean and free from dust will not allow preventing thermal throttling but also allow free circulation of air into your laptop.
Overclocking Your PC
Unless you are an experienced gamer or you know what you are doing overclocking is a good way on how to get better fps.
Overclocking your CPU, GPU or RAM can also run the risk of your laptop getting hot so make sure your laptop either has a very good cooling system or cooling pad.
Install Razer Cortex
The Razer Cortex is a free game booster that optimizes your computer for gaming. The software does that by managing and killing processes and apps you don’t need when gaming.
This allows more resources to be used by the game resulting in the increased performance of your laptop
Adjust Your System Settings for Best Performance
You can configure your laptop to for the best performance. You can either do this by changing power settings to best performance or through settings.
To do it through the settings.
Enter advanced system settings into your search bar. Click view advanced system settings.
Under the Advanced tab look for Performance and click settings under it. Select Adjust for best performance. Click Apply then OK.
Get an External GPU (eGPU)
If your laptop is compatible you can get an external GPU that will house a dedicated graphics card.
You can use the external GPU to then play demanding games without suffering from low fps.
Download MSI AfterBurner
MSI AfterBurner is a free software that can overclock your laptop. Aside from that it also monitors your laptop’s voltage and temperature.
Overclocking your laptop will give you greater performance. Make sure your laptop’s cooling system is very good before you plan to do so. You can download it here.
If all these don’t work then it is time to get a new gaming laptop.
