6 Best Laptops For Sketchup, 3D Modelling and Rendering

In this article, we are going to discuss the best-recommended laptops for SketchUp, 3D modelling and rendering. To be honest, desktops are the best for these kinds of tasks because give much better performance than laptops.

Laptops are not great because they have slow rendering times. Also, rendering maxes out the performance of the laptop which causes high temperatures resulting in thermal throttling.

Desktops have great cooling systems and so there is no thermal throttling. Thermal throttling can cause the laptop’s performance to drop resulting in longer rendering times.

In addition, maxing out the laptop’s performance all the time can reduce the lifespan of your laptop. This makes desktops superior to laptops in 3D modelling and rendering. The great thing about laptops is that you can model and render on the go something desktops are not capable of.

Or if you prefer, you can model on your laptop and render on your desktop.

Now that we have made things clear, let’s get down to the best laptops for not only Sketchup but for 3D modelling and rendering in general.

Acer Aspire E 15 Laptop, 15.6' Full HD, 8th Gen Intel Core i5-8250U, GeForce MX150, 8GB RAM Memory, 256GB SSD, E5-576G-5762

The Acer Aspire E15 is a decent laptop available for those who are on a tight budget. It might not have performance comparable to the higher end laptops and will even take a long time in rendering. Nevertheless, it will still get the job done but will take a longer time.

It is powered by a quad-core Intel i5 processor and 8 GB RAM. It has an entry-level dedicated MX150 which can do some light gaming and a 256 GB SSD.

The display is a 15.6 inch Full HD (1920 x 1080). The battery life is above average lasting 8 hours under normal usage. It also has a lot of ports, two USB 3.0 and three USB 3.0. The Acer Aspire weighs almost 5 pounds not too heavy or light and it is less than an inch thick.

What To Look For When Buying A Laptop For SketchUp, 3D Modelling And Rendering

CPU

The more cores a processor has the less time it will take to render. In rendering, the laptop is pushed to its maximum performance and having a lot of cores in a processor helps immensely because the high number of cores will work together to finish the render quickly.

But, if the processor has a lot of cores but lower clock speeds it is going to be outperformed by one which has higher clock speeds but fewer cores. The bottom line is that the higher the number of cores and clock speed the better it will perform on rendering.

Graphics Card

Graphics cards are not as important as CPU when it comes to Sketchup and rendering but they are still a great deal of help. Workstations with NVIDIA Quadro cards are the best because they have been optimised for said tasks. They are also the most expensive. If you are going to do the heavy duty tasks they are best but anything else the GTX cards will suffice.

RAM

A minimum of 16 GB of RAM I recommended. Sketchup, 3D modelling and rendering take large amounts of RAM when they are running. An insufficient amount of RAM will result in freezing or lagging of your laptop. It will also take a much longer time to complete the rendering.

Budget

Budget is the most important because it determines whether you will be able to get the best or the worst. You also have to consider whether the tasks you are going to subject the laptop to is intense. A planned budget helps in choosing the best laptop according to your needs at that price.

Stick to these and you will find the best laptop for you.

That’s the end of our recommended list of the best laptops for Sketchup, 3D modelling and rendering. Feel free to comment if you need any help in finding a laptop.
