Microsoft Surface Book 2

Microsoft Surface Book 2 13.5' (Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM, 512 GB)

Every interior designer is an artist. Every artist knows how indispensable tablets are. But, what beats tablets is a convertible that allows you to use it as a tablet or laptop. And the Microsoft Surface Book 2 just does that.

A true powerful convertible laptop. It was specifically made for designers.

The display on this thing is one of the best out there. A high-resolution display with high colour accuracy and reproduction. It is also bright and pleasant to look at.

Since the Microsoft Surface Book 2 is a convertible you can detach the display and use it as a tablet. Unfortunately, the Surface Pen is sold separately if you like to use a stylus.

The performance is also great. An 8th Gen Intel i7, 16GB RAM and an NVIDIA GTX 1060. Powerful hardware that runs Sketchup and Revit.

You can also game on this thing but be prepared to experience a serious case of thermal throttling.

Battery life on this thing is impressive. Use the keyboard and display together and you are looking at more than 12 hours of battery life under consistent use.

Detach the keyboard from the display you will get somewhere between 10-12 hours.

Even with all its awesome benefits the Microsoft Surface Book 2 lacks a Thunderbolt 3 port. Given its price, a Thunderbolt 3 should have been a must.

The Microsoft Surface Book 2 is one of the best laptops for interior design because of its versatility. You can easily switch between a tablet and a laptop. This allows you to get more done with designs.

Lenovo ThinkPad P52s

Lenovo ThinkPad P52s Mobile Workstation Ultrabook Laptop (Intel 8th Gen i7-8550U 4-core, 32GB RAM, 512GB SSD, 15.6' FHD 1920x1080 IPS, NVIDIA Quadro P500, Fingerprint, Backlit Keyboard, Win 10 Pro)

The Lenovo Thinkpad P52s is for professional work. If you are looking not only to run Sketchup and Autodesk Revit.

But CAD modelling and rendering the Lenovo Thinkpad has the hardware to do so.

An 8th Gen Intel i7 quad-core processor, 32GB RAM and a Quadro P500 graphics card.

The Intel Core i7 is almost on par with the previous generation i7 processor found in gaming laptops. You can expect solid processing power.

And along with the massive amount of RAM multitasking will be like taking a walk in the park.

The Quadro P500 card is optimised for software that does a lot of rendering. So you can also expect decent performance.

The 15.6 inches Full HD (1920 x 1080) display has decent brightness and above average colour accuracy and reproduction. You will definitely enjoy watching a movie or two after a hard day’s work. Viewing angles are also decent.

One benefit of owning Lenovo Thinkpads is their above average battery life. And this is no exception. The battery lasts about 8-9 hours under normal use before requiring a recharge.

The Lenovo Thinkpad P52s has a lot to offer with little to no flaws. The only flaw is its awful webcam which is not recommended to make a video or Skype calls.

Aside from that the hardware especially the Quadro P500 gives it an advantage over the majority of the laptops.

Microsoft Surface Pro 6

Microsoft Surface Pro 6 (Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM, 128GB) - Newest Version, Platinum

The Microsoft Surface Pro 6 is the Microsoft Surface Book 2 smaller cousin. The hardware is very similar with a few key differences. The graphics card, I/O selection and keyboard.

While the Microsoft Surface Book 2 comes with a powerful dedicated graphics card. The Microsoft Surface Pro 6 relies on an integrated card.

The Surface also has one USB port which is disappointing. In addition to that, you have to purchase a keyboard and stylus separately.

Still, the Microsoft Surface Pro 6 is a capable performer. The base model comes with an 8th Gen Intel Core i5 processor.

A processor which is on par with the previous generation i7 processor found in gaming laptops. It has 8GB of RAM and 128GB SSD for storage.

The screen is a 12.3-inch high-resolution PixelSense display. A bright display that is colour accurate and has high colour reproduction. This makes it one of the best displays for artist and designers. Throw in a stylus and you can handle any project.

In the battery department, the Microsoft Surface Pro 6 is a strong performer. You are able to get 8-9 hours under consistent use.

Compact, lightweight and a beautiful display. What more could an interior designer ask? This laptop will be able to run AutoCAD, Revit, Sketchup and Photoshop well.

Moreover, 15.6-inch display is the makes it great for casual graphics work. Because of its high colour accuracy and reproduction. The only downside is that it’s not that bright.

Best Laptops For AutoDesk Revit And AutoCAD

Performance is nothing to scoff at. An 8th Gen Intel Core i7 processor with 16GB RAM. Capable hardware that can crush demanding tasks.

The graphics card is a GTX 1060 Max-Q which is basically an underclocked version of the actual GTX 1060. This means less power consumption and heat produced.

This results in better battery life and less electric bills. Talking about battery life. Razer Blades are known to last on average 6-7 hours under consistent use.

The only exception is the Razer Blade 15 Advanced. The kind of battery life blows away the competition. Most gaming laptops only last 3-4 hours.

This thing is a fingerprint magnet because of its smooth finish. But on the bright side, it’s light and compact because of its aluminium build.

A robust chassis means the higher chances of your laptop lasting a long time. Because it’s able to withstand shocks.

The hardware on this thing makes it one of the best laptops for interior design. That is if you don’t mind the keyboard with shallow travel. Highly recommended especially if you are an interior design student.

Razer Blade 15 Review

HP Envy 17T

HP Envy 17T Touch Intel Core i7-8550U Quad Core, 512GB SSD, 16GB RAM, Win 10 Pro HP Installed, 17.3 FHD touch, Nvidia 4GB DDR5,B&O speakers, Mcafee 3 Years Internet Security, WideVision HD Cam(not IR)

The HP Envy 17T is a laptop that delivers a lot of value. This laptop comes with little bloatware meaning less crap.

And the design eye-catching. A silver-white aluminium casing that is not a fingerprint magnet. This gives a premium look and a robust chassis.

The laptop is powered by an 8th Gen Intel quad-core i7 processor. A capable processor that can handle interior design software without any problems.

In addition to that, it has 16GB RAM and an NVIDIA MX150. A lot of RAM is always a plus.

The NVIDIA MX150 is an entry-level card which will add to the performance to an extent. But when it comes to gaming don’t expect stellar performance from this device.

If you are a big screen lover then the more reason for you to get this laptop. The bigger the display size the more screen estate.

You are looking at a 17.3 inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) with decent brightness. Viewing angles, colour accuracy and colour reproduction are decent.

Battery life on this thing belongs to the average category. You can expect, at most 7-8 hours of battery life under consistent use.

Because this laptop has a large display it’s quite heavy. The HP Envy 17T weighs close to 6.7 pounds that a little over 3 kilos. And an inch thick.

The HP Envy 17T offers a lot of value. And one of the few laptops to spot a premium silver-white design in its price category.

Aside from its 6 pound weight, it basically ticks all the boxes for a laptop that’s going to be used for interior design work.

Easy To Set Up

Decent Battery Life

Cons

Acer Aspire E15

Acer Aspire E 15 Laptop, 15.6' Full HD, 8th Gen Intel Core i5-8250U, GeForce MX150, 8GB RAM Memory, 256GB SSD, E5-576G-5762

The Acer Aspire E15 is a cheap laptop for interior designers on a tight budget. Even though it’s a budget laptop the hardware on this machine is decent.

It is powered by am 8th Gen Intel quad-core i5 processor. A capable processor that can handle most of the software used for interior design.

RAM is 8GB which is common in budget laptops but a 256GB SSD is a plus. Most budget laptops come with HDDs. If the 8GB RAM is not enough you can upgrade it to 16GB.

In addition to that, it has an entry-level NVIDIA MX150 graphics card. A card good enough for casual games, not AAA title gaming. It will prove useful in your projects since interior design works with graphics.

When it comes to the display it is a 15.6 inch Full HD (1920 x 1080). Colour accuracy and reproduction is average but surprisingly the sharpness is decent. Brightness on this laptop is low and using it outdoors will be quite difficult.

This thing has a decent battery life. It is able to last about 8 hours under consistent use before requiring a recharge. Not too shabby.

Where the Acer Aspire E15 disappoints is the amount of bloatware on it. Acer laptops have a lot of bloatware.

Doing a clean installation will give you better user experience. You can also check this guide on other ways of removing Windows bloatware.

The Acer Aspire E15 certainly doesn’t wow. But if you need a decent budget laptop for interior design. It will definitely get the job done especially if you are an interior design student.
