Microsoft Surface Book 2

Microsoft Surface Book 2 HNM-00001 Laptop (Windows 10, Intel i7-8650U, 13.5' Screen, Storage: 512 GB, RAM: 16 GB) Silver

Every interior designer is an artist. Every artist knows how indispensable tablets are. But, what beats tablets is a convertible that allows you to use it as a tablet or laptop. And the Microsoft Surface Book 2 just does that.

A true powerful convertible laptop. It was specifically made for designers.

The display on this thing is one of the best out there. A high-resolution display with high colour accuracy and reproduction. It is also bright and pleasant to look at.

Since the Microsoft Surface Book 2 is a convertible you can detach the display and use it as a tablet. Unfortunately, the Surface Pen is sold separately if you like to use a stylus.

The performance is also great. An 8th Gen Intel i7, 16GB RAM and an NVIDIA GTX 1060. Powerful hardware that runs Sketchup and Revit.

You can also game on this thing but be prepared to experience a serious case of thermal throttling.

Battery life on this thing is impressive. Use the keyboard and display together and you are looking at more than 12 hours of battery life under consistent use.

Detach the keyboard from the display you will get somewhere between 10-12 hours.

Even with all its awesome benefits the Microsoft Surface Book 2 lacks a Thunderbolt 3 port. Given its price, a Thunderbolt 3 should have been a must.

The Microsoft Surface Book 2 is one of the best laptops for interior design because of its versatility. You can easily switch between a tablet and a laptop. This allows you to get more done with designs.

Pros

The Lenovo Thinkpad P53s is for professional work. If you are looking not only to run Sketchup and Autodesk Revit. But CAD modelling and rendering the Lenovo Thinkpad has the hardware to do so.

An 8th Gen Intel i7 quad-core processor, 16GB RAM and a Quadro P520 graphics card.

The Intel Core i7 is almost on par with the previous generation i7 processor found in gaming laptops. You can expect solid processing power.

And along with the massive amount of RAM multitasking will be like taking a walk in the park.

The Quadro P520 card is optimised for software that does a lot of rendering. So you can also expect decent performance.

The 15.6 inches Full HD (1920 x 1080) display has decent brightness and above average colour accuracy and reproduction. You will definitely enjoy watching a movie or two after a hard day’s work. Viewing angles are also decent.

One benefit of owning Lenovo Thinkpads is their above average battery life. And this is no exception. The battery lasts about 8-9 hours under normal use before requiring a recharge.

The Lenovo Thinkpad P53s has a lot to offer with little to no flaws. The only flaw is its awful webcam which is not recommended to make a video or Skype calls.

Aside from that the hardware especially the Quadro P520 gives it an advantage over the majority of the laptops. This makes it one of the best computers for interior design.

NEW Microsoft Surface Pro 7 – 12.3' Touch-Screen - 10th Gen Intel Core i5 - 8GB Memory - 128GB SSD (Latest Model) – Platinum with Black Type Cover

The Microsoft Surface Pro 7 is the Microsoft Surface Book 2 smaller cousin. The hardware is very similar with a few key differences. The graphics card, I/O selection and keyboard.

While the Microsoft Surface Book 2 comes with a powerful dedicated graphics card. The Microsoft Surface Pro 6 relies on an integrated card.

The Surface also has one USB port which is disappointing. In addition to that, you have to purchase a keyboard and stylus separately.

Still, the Microsoft Surface Pro 7 is a capable performer. The base model comes with an 8th Gen Intel Core i5 processor.

A processor which is on par with the previous generation i7 processor found in gaming laptops. It has 8GB of RAM and 128GB SSD for storage.

Razer Blade 15

Razer Blade 15 Gaming Laptop 2019: Intel Core i7-9750H 6 Core, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660Ti, 15.6' FHD 1080p 60Hz, 16GB RAM, 128GB SSD + 1TB, CNC Aluminum, Chroma RGB Lighting, Thunderbolt 3

Compact, lightweight and a beautiful display. What more could an interior designer ask? This laptop will be able to run AutoCAD, Revit, Sketchup and Photoshop well.

Moreover, 15.6-inch display is the makes it great for casual graphics work. Because of its high colour accuracy and reproduction. The only downside is that it’s not that bright.

Best Laptops For AutoDesk Revit And AutoCAD

Performance is nothing to scoff at. An 9th Gen Intel Core i7 processor with 16GB RAM. Capable hardware that can crush demanding tasks.

The graphics card is a GTX 1660 Ti which is a powerful graphics card. Powerful enough to be used for interior design and gaming.

When it comes to battery life. Razer Blades are known to last on average 6-7 hours under consistent use.

A robust chassis means the higher chances of your laptop lasting a long time. Because it’s able to withstand shocks.

Unfortunately, the laptop is a fingerprint magnet because of its smooth finish. But on the bright side, it’s light and compact because of its aluminium build.

The hardware on this thing makes it one of the best laptops for interior design. That is if you don’t mind the keyboard with shallow travel. Highly recommended especially if you are an interior design student.

HP Envy 17

HP Envy 2019,17.3' Full HD Touch, i7-10510U 10th gen Quad CPU,NVIDIA MX250(4GB), 1TB SSD NVME,16GB RAM,Win 10 Pro Pre-Installed by HP, Neopack 64GB Flash Drive, B&O Speakers, HP Premium Warranty

The HP Envy 17 is a laptop that delivers a lot of value. This laptop comes with little bloatware meaning less crap.

And the design eye-catching. A silver-white aluminium casing that is not a fingerprint magnet. This gives a premium look and a robust chassis.

The laptop is powered by a 10th Gen Intel quad-core i7 processor. A capable processor that can handle interior design software without any problems.

In addition to that, it has 16GB RAM and an NVIDIA MX250. A lot of RAM is always a plus.

The NVIDIA MX250 is an entry-level card which will add to the performance to an extent. But when it comes to gaming don’t expect stellar performance from this device.

If you are a big screen lover then the more reason for you to get this laptop. The bigger the display size the more screen estate.

You are looking at a 17.3 inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) with decent brightness. Viewing angles, colour accuracy and colour reproduction are decent.

Battery life on this thing belongs to the average category. You can expect, at most 7-8 hours of battery life under consistent use.

Because this laptop has a large display it’s quite heavy. The HP Envy 17 weighs close to 6.7 pounds that a little over 3 kilos. And an inch thick.

The HP Envy 17 offers a lot of value. And one of the few laptops to spot a premium silver-white design in its price category.

Aside from its 6 pound weight, it basically ticks all the boxes for a laptop that’s going to be used for interior design work. Overall, one of the best laptops for interior design students.

Pros

Acer Aspire 5

Acer Aspire 5 Slim Laptop, 15.6' Full HD IPS Display, 10th Gen Intel Core i5-10210U, NVIDIA GeForce MX250, 8GB DDR4, 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD, Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX201 802.11ax, Backlit KB, A515-54G-53H6

The Acer Aspire 55 is a cheap laptop for interior designers on a tight budget. Even though it’s a budget laptop the hardware on this machine is decent.

It is powered by am 10th Gen Intel quad-core i5 processor. A capable processor that can handle most of the software used for interior design.

RAM is 8GB which is common in budget laptops but a 512GB SSD is a plus. Most budget laptops come with HDDs. If the 8GB RAM is not enough you can upgrade it to 16GB.

In addition to that, it has an entry-level NVIDIA MX250 graphics card. A card good enough for casual games, not AAA title gaming. It will prove useful in your projects since interior design works with graphics.

When it comes to the display it is a 15.6 inch Full HD (1920 x 1080). Colour accuracy and reproduction is average but surprisingly the sharpness is decent. Brightness on this laptop is low and using it outdoors will be quite difficult.

This thing has a decent battery life. It is able to last about 8 hours under consistent use before requiring a recharge. Not too shabby.

Where the Acer Aspire 5 disappoints is the amount of bloatware on it. Acer laptops have a lot of bloatware.

Doing a clean installation will give you better user experience. You can also check this guide on other ways of removing Windows bloatware.

The Acer Aspire 5 certainly doesn’t wow. But if you need a decent budget laptop for interior design. It will definitely get the job done especially if you are an interior design student.

Pros
