New Apple MacBook Pro (13-inch, 8GB RAM, 128GB Storage) - Space Gray

The Apple MacBook Pro is a powerful machine for medical professionals. It has the build quality and processing power to handle heavy-duty applications.

The MacBook Pro has a unibody made from aluminium. This means that your Apple MacBook Pro has far better build quality than your average laptop. An important benefit to having if you are looking for a laptop to last a long time.

When it comes to performance. It is powered by a high-performance 8th Gen Intel Core i5 quad-core, 8GB RAM and Intel HD graphics graphics. The hardware specs are decent. And will still be capable several years down the line.

But, its performance comes at a cost. Because of its slim form-factor. The Apple MacBook Pro is not able to get rid of heat quickly. This causes it to thermal throttle when under heavy loads or tasks. Not the best choice if you are going to subject it to heavy loads for long periods.

The retina display as always is gorgeous. A resolution of 2880 x 1800. Brightness is high, viewing angles are great and colour accuracy is high. The reason why Apple MacBook Pros are popular.

The Apple MacBook Pro is great. But, here are a few things you should know before getting it.

The device is expensive for its specs. Something that is already known when it is a product from Apple. The Apple MacBook Pro also doesn’t have USB-A ports. All the USB Type-C ports are Thunderbolt 3. A good problem to have.

You need a dock if you want to use USB-A ports.

Lastly, the butterfly keyboard is not the best. And there have been some problems with it. Luckily, Apple provides a keyboard service program. So it isn’t a big issue.

Overall, the Apple MacBook Pro is one of the best laptops for medical professionals. Because it’s solid build quality, performance and the customer support you receive from Apple.

Apple MacBook Pro Review

Dell XPS 13

Dell XPS 13 - 13.3' UHD InfinityEdge, 8th Gen Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD - Silver - 9370

The Dell XPS 13 is in a class of its own when it comes to ultraportable laptops. Solid performance, great battery life and its lightweight are what naturally comes with the Dell XPS 13.

It is powered by an 8th Gen Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB RAM and a fast 512GB PCIe SSD. Hardware combinations like this give you a fast and efficient system. The Dell XPS 13 has more than enough power to handle your workload. And has fast boot-up speeds.

The form-factor of this laptop is slim. A characteristic of ultraportable laptops and a benefit too. You can easily fit this into your bag without any problems. In addition to that, it weighs a little over 2 pounds. Very light for an ultraportable. You won’t even notice it in your bag.

The battery life is also amazing. You are looking at somewhere between 8-9 hours under consistent use. Pretty impressive. It could have been better if it wasn’t for its gorgeous 4K display which sucks up a lot of power.

The display is 13.3 inches and has a high resolution. The display bezels are thin and it has a high colour accuracy. Viewing angles are also great. In short, 4K displays are gorgeous and have the best colour accuracy.

Even with all the benefits, it provides the Dell XPS 13 is far from perfect. All the USB ports are type-C with two being Thunderbolt 3 ports. That means you have to get a dock for your Dell XPS 13. If you want to use USB-A ports. It might be a good problem to have though.

The webcam also sucks and it is located in a poor position – the bottom of the display. Avoid this if you Skype or video call a lot.

Overall, the Dell XPS 13 is one of the best laptops for doctors because it provides a lot of processing power in a small form factor.

Pros

Great Performance

Great Battery Life

Lightweight

Great Display

Cons

Dell XPS 13 Review

Huawei MateBook X Pro

Huawei MateBook X Pro Signature Edition Thin & Light Laptop, 13.9' 3K Touch, 8th Gen i7-8550U, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD, GeForce MX150, 3:2 Aspect Ratio, Office 365 Personal, Space Gray - Mach-W29C

The Huawei MateBook X Pro is a great and cost-effective alternative to the Apple MacBook Pro. The design is similar to that of the Apple MacBook with a few differences.

The design is gorgeous. A smooth aluminium finish with a display that has thin bezels. Talking about the display. It is a 13.9 inch with a resolution of 3000 x 2000. A very bright display, great viewing angles and high colour accuracy.

Aside from that, it is a slim and lightweight laptop. It weighs 3 pounds and it is half an inch thick. One of the slimmest laptops out there. This makes it easy to carry to the hospital or medical school.

When it comes to performance. It boasts similar processing power to that of the Dell XPS 13. An 8th Gen Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD.

Plus, it has a dedicated NVIDIA MX150 graphics card. It’s an entry-level card so don’t expect stellar gaming performance from it. The processing power from this laptop won’t disappoint you.

Battery life is also amazing. It’s about 9-10 hours under consistent use. That almost half a day. Not too shabby for a laptop.

The Huawei MateBook X Pro would have been perfect if it wasn’t for a few cons it has. The build quality is not that great. There is a little bit of flex here and there.

The webcam placement is bad. It is a key that when you press it pops out from the keyboard. And so it looks into your nose. The resolution is also poor making it unsuitable for video calls. At least, the pop-up webcam prevents people from spying on you.

Finally, it tends to get a bit hot. Something common in a lot of laptops that have a slim chassis.

Still, the Huawei MateBook X Pro provides immerse value at its price point. And a suitable alternative to the Apple MacBook Pro. One of the best laptops for doctors and medical students.

Pros

Great Performance

Good Battery Life

Great Display

Lightweight

Cons

Not Best Build Quality

HP Spectre x360

Newest HP Spectre x360-13t Quad Core(8th Gen Intel i7-8550U, 16GB DDR4, 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD, IPS micro-edge Touchscreen Corning Gorilla, Windows 10 Ink)Bang&Olufsen 13.3' 2-in-1 Convertible - Dark Ash

The HP Spectre x360 is a 2-in-1 convertible laptop with a lot of value. The first thing you will notice about this laptop is its build quality. The build quality is top-notch. A unibody aluminium design similar to that of the Apple MacBook. You can expect a lot of years from this laptop.

Since it’s made from aluminium you might think it’s heavy. You are wrong. This is a lightweight device weighing almost 3 pounds and half an inch thick. The problem arises when you try to use it in tablet mode. Because of its all-metal design when holding it. It’s quite difficult to be used properly as a tablet. And it is an absolute fingerprint magnet.

Performance-wise. Your HP Spectre x360 is powered by an 8th Gen Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM and a 512GB SSD. It doesn’t have a dedicated graphics card. But, if you want one you check out this HP Spectre x360 model .

The display is superb. A 15.6 inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) with thin bezels. Plus, it is a Corning Gorilla Glass display. A tough screen that is resistant to scratches and bumps.

Colours on the display are pleasant. You will enjoy watching movies on it. And the viewing angles are great. The display is not so bright and it a glossy (insert link) display.

The HP Spectre also comes with a lot of bloatware. But, that isn’t a problem because you can easily remove them following this guide.

If you are a doctor or medical student looking for a 2-in-1 convertible. Then the HP Spectre x360 is a solid option. Nothing beats its great build quality and sleek design.

Microsoft Surface Pro 6

Microsoft  Surface Pro 6 (Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM, 128GB)

If you are looking for the best tablet for medical school. Then the Microsoft Surface Pro 6 is the best. A highly configurable 2-in-1 laptop that is lightweight. It weighs 1.7 pounds.

Highly configurable in the sense that. You can choose the specs to have an 8th Gen i5, 8GB RAM and 128GB SSD. Or you can ramp it up to its most powerful hardware. Which has an 8th Gen Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD at an extra cost.

The base model (Intel i5) is quite powerful. Almost on par with the previous Intel Core i7 processor that was found in gaming laptops.

The battery life on this is strong. It is in the range of 8-9 hours under consistent use.

For the display, it is much better than the average laptop or tablet on the market. A 12.3 inch with a resolution of 2736 x 1824. Microsoft calls this a PixelSense display. Well, this PixelSense display has high colour accuracy and great viewing angles. Plus, it is a bright display.

The Microsoft Surface Pro 6 is a true laptop-tablet hybrid. You can make use of its keyboard which turns it into a laptop. Or the Surface Pen if you want to take notes. Unfortunately, both are sold separately.

The 2-in-1 laptop comes with a single USB port which is disappointing. Microsoft could have done a better job of at least making it two.

Overall, the Microsoft Surface Pro 6 is one of the best tablets for doctors and medical school. Add a surface pen and you can easily take important notes.

Pros

Solid Performance

Great Battery Life

Beautiful Display

True Tablet Experience

Cons

Only One USB Port

Keyboard and Stylus Pen Sold Separately

Lenovo Yoga 730

New 2018 Lenovo Yoga 730 2-in-1 15.6' FHD IPS Touch-Screen Laptop, Intel i5-8250U, 8GB DDR4 RAM, 256GB PCIe SSD, Thunderbolt, Fingerprint Reader, Backlit Keyboard, Built for Windows Ink, Win10

For those looking for an inexpensive or budget laptop. The Lenovo Yoga 730 is a solid option and one of the few budget laptops to have a Thunderbolt 3 port.

The Lenovo Yoga 730 has a lot going on except for the battery life. The battery life is below average and lasts 6-7 hours under consistent use.

This might be a deal-breaker for you. If you are looking for a laptop that can last more than 8 hours. Luckily, the laptop has fast-charging capabilities. So it isn’t a big deal.

Performance is really solid on this. An 8th Gen Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM and a 256GB SSD. There is no dedicated graphics card. Fast processors and fast storage devices make an efficient laptop. You will get fast boot-up speeds and decent processing power.

The display is a 15.6 inch Full HD (1920 x 1080). There is nothing special about the display and it is average at best.

Overall, the Lenovo Yoga 730 is a budget laptop with decent performance capabilities. It might not be as great as high-tier or more expensive laptops.

But, it will get the job done and one of the few affordable laptops to have a Thunderbolt 3 port. Highly recommended for medical students on a budget.

Pros

Solid Performance

Thunderbolt 3 Port

Affordable

Fast Charge

Cons

Not The Best Battery Life
