MSI GS65 Stealth

MSI GS65 Stealth-007 15.6' Razor Thin Bezel Gaming Laptop NVIDIA RTX 2060 6G, 144Hz 7ms, Intel i7-8750H (6 cores), 16GB, 256GB NVMe SSD, TB3, Per Key RGB, Win 10 Pro, Matte Black with Gold Diamond cut

The MSI GS65 is a powerhouse in a thin chassis. In addition to that, it easily fits the recommended requirements for blender.

This laptop is powered by an 8th Gen hexacore i7 processor, 16GB RAM and an NVIDIA GTX 2060. Right off the bat, this is a powerful machine. And the graphics card is powerful too.

You will be able to model, render and animate your work with no problem. Plus, AAA title games will run smoothing on high to ultra settings.

Unfortunately, the storage space is low. A 256GB SSD which will quickly fill up. The operating system itself takes 20GB – 30GB. That leaves you with 220GB which is not enough for today’s files.

On the bright side, you can upgrade this to a 512GB or 1TB SSD. On the not-so-bright side, getting into the laptop is difficult. The motherboard has been turned so that the components are facing the keyboard side, not the back.

This means you have to remove a lot of screws to get into the internals. If you have some experience with laptops you can do this by yourself. But it’s best to take it to an expert.

The MSI GS65 has one of the best displays out there. For a Full HD (1920 x 1080) gaming laptop the colour accuracy, reproduction and saturation are high.

High enough you can use it for work that require high colour gamut on laptop displays. The refresh rate is also 144Hz. Displays with high refresh rate make screen tearing and stuttering non-existent in games.

Battery life on this laptop is so-and-so. At best you are looking at 5-6 hours under consistent use. Which is impressive for a gaming laptop. Most gaming laptop last 2-3 hours.

But, it is still below the average which is 8 hours. Nevertheless, that’s enough power to finish a lot of tasks.

With such powerful hardware, the amount of heat generated is going to be high. Plus this laptop is thin. So it will definitely run hot. And to better control the heat management. The fans get loud.

A sign that the fans are working extra hard. If you know your way around laptops applying thermal paste or undervolting will stop your laptop from running at high temperatures.

Overall, the MSI GS65 is a powerful thin and light laptop. That can fit the recommended requirements for running blender.

In other words, you won’t have any problem. The only problem is the amount of bloatware it has. Which you can easily remove by following this guide.

Pros

Great Performance

Superb Display

Decent Battery Life For A Gaming Laptop

Thin & Light

Cons

ASUS ROG Strix Hero III

XPC ASUS ROG Strix Hero III G731 Gamer Notebook (Intel 9th Gen i7-9750H, 32GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, NVIDIA RTX 2060 6GB, 17.3' Full HD 144Hz 3ms, Windows 10) VR Ready Gaming Laptop

Now this ASUS ROG Strix Hero III is not for the faint-hearted. If you are looking for a thin and light laptop with great battery life. Then skip this.

But you are looking for an absolute behemoth that can serve as a desktop replacement then this is a solid option.

This laptop absolutely meets the optimum requirements for blender. You can check it out here.

A 9th Gen i7 processor, 32GB RAM and an NVIDIA RTX 2060. And the best part? The laptop runs cool under heavy loads.

That means there is no thermal throttling or drop in performance when things get demanding. 3D modelling, rendering and 3D animation will be a walk in the park with this laptop.

Plus, it comes with a massive amount of storage. A 1TB NVMe SSD which is super-fast. Fast boot up speeds, fast file transfer and fast loading of applications.

The display is large. A 17.3 inch Full HD (1920 x 1080). All Blender enthusiasts know how great having a large screen estate is. It allows you to put more things on the screen and increases productivity.

As a high-end gaming laptop, the refresh rate is 144Hz. The colour gamut on the display is also decent.

Even with all its benefits. The ASUS ROG Strix Hero III has its own downsides.

Firstly, the laptop is heavy weighing a little over 6 pounds and over an inch thick. It’s to be expected for it to run cool. The thinner and lighter the laptop the hotter it will run.

Because there isn’t enough space and vents for the heat to escape. Bigger chassis laptops always run cooler than their thinner counterparts. Just keep in mind that the weight will make it difficult for you to carry everywhere.

Secondly, battery life is definitely lacking. You are looking at 3 hours under consistent use. And less when you are gaming. Once again if battery life is a concern don’t get this.

The ASUS ROG Strix Hero III is a powerful desktop replacement laptop. It has more than enough power to run the latest AAA title games, Blender and other 3D modelling and rendering software.

Nothing can go wrong when you have a powerful GPU, 32GB RAM and a hexacore i7 processor.

ASUS ZenBook Pro

ASUS UX550GE-XB71T Zenbook Pro 15.6' UHD 4K Touch Laptop, Intel Core i7-8750HK, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, Win10 Pro, GTX1050Ti

The ASUS Zenbook Pro is meant for professionals. And its biggest strength is its 4K display.

Laptops that have the highest resolutions always have high colour gamut. The colour accuracy, reproduction, vibrancy and saturation are high enough to work with colours. And the ASUS ZenBook Pro is no exception.

In addition to that, having a 4K resolution on a 15.6-inch display means more screen estate for you. You will be able to pack more things on its touchscreen display.

When it comes to performance. The ASUS ZenBook Pro has an unlocked 8th Gen Intel Core i7 processor.

Unlocked processors respond much better to overclocking. This boosts the performance allowing you to get more out of it.

The graphics card is an NVIDIA GTX 1050 Ti. It’s not as powerful as the newer NVIDIA cards but still powerful enough to handle Blender.

In addition to its 16GB RAM and super fast PCIe NVME SSD. You get an efficient and powerful laptop.

Talking about efficient. Battery life is below average. Powerful hardware and a 4K resolution display drain a lot of power unplugged. You are looking at somewhere between 4-5 hours under consistent use.

Fortunately, the laptop has fast charging capabilities. It allows you to get it up to 60% in 50 minutes.

The build quality on this is pretty solid. It’s attractive, shows class and professionalism. But, it’s also an absolute fingerprint magnet. Keep a small cotton cloth beside you at all times to clean it off.

The webcam is crappy. Such a shame for a laptop aimed at professionals. Avoid this if you use the webcam a lot.

Still, the ASUS ZenBook Pro has some interesting hardware. And a powerful one at that. One of them is fast charging. Even though the battery life is poor.

The fast charge easily makes you forget about it. And when it comes to performance it meets the requirements for Blender and Zbrush.

Pros

Superb Display

Lightweight

Great Performance

Fast Charging Capabilities

Cons

Fingerprint Magnet

Not The Best Battery Life

Poor Webcam

Lenovo Ideapad L340

Lenovo IdeaPad L340 Gaming Laptop, 15.6-Inch FHD (1920 X 1080) IPS Display, Intel Core i7-9750H Processor, 8GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB HDD, 256GB NVMe SSD, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050, Windows 10, 81LK000EUS, Black

The Lenovo Ideapad L340 is a mid-range laptop. It has gaming hardware but without the gamer look.

The hardware offers the best balance between price and performance. In addition, it is a thin and light device. It weighs less than 5 pounds and its less than an inch thick.

You are looking at a 9th Gen Intel core i7 hexacore processor, 8 GB RAM and an NVIDIA GTX 1050. The processor is powerful and so there’s no problem there. The RAM can be easily upgraded. But, it only has one slot.

That means you can’t take advantage of dual channel memory. And replacing it will only require a single RAM stick.

The storage capacity is large. Combined storage of a 256GB SSD drive and a 1TB HDD. Enough space to keep your files on. The OS will be kept on the SSD for fast boot up speeds. Whilst large files are stored on the HDD.

The display is also decent. A 15.6 inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) with thin bezels. This gives it an aesthetic appeal. Brightness and colour gamut are unfortunately below average.

Lenovo says the battery life is 9 hours. But, that is on idle. Realistically you are looking at 7-8 hours under consistent use. Another great benefit the laptop comes with is its fast charging. It is able to get the battery up to 80 per cent in an hour.

Aside from it’s below the average display and single RAM slot. There is nothing that can go wrong with the Lenovo Ideapad L340.

Pros

Solid Performance

Fast Charge

Light

Nice Design

Cons

Acer Predator Helios 300

Acer Predator Helios 300 Gaming Laptop PC, 15.6' Full HD 144Hz 3ms IPS Display, Intel i7-9750H, GTX 1660 Ti 6GB, 16GB DDR4, 256GB PCIe NVMe SSD, Backlit Keyboard, PH315-52-78VL

The Acer Predator Helios 300 is a great option for students. Especially those who are looking for an affordable laptop for Blender. The same applies to 3D modelling and rendering.

Acer made this model better than its predecessor. It’s now thinner, lighter and runs cooler. Whereas, the previous model was bulky and overheated a lot.

Plus, the hardware is more powerful. You are looking a 9th Gen Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB and an NVIDIA GTX 1660 Ti. That pretty much makes it a powerful gaming laptop.

It will be able to take on demanding applications without breaking a sweat. And the improved thermal management makes it run at max performance without thermal throttling.

The storage space is low. A 256GB SSD drive. Yes, it’s fast but it will fill up faster. Fortunately, you can upgrade the storage space which is easy to do.

Acer has provided two NVME slots and an HDD slot. That means you can upgrade to 3TB of storage or more.

The display itself is pretty decent. A 15.6 inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) with a 144Hz refresh rate. The standard refresh rate in gaming laptops in its category. The colour gamut is also decent and high enough to appreciate the colour reproduction.

Battery life is poor. But, it is what it is. Housing powerful hardware and having a 58 Whr battery will definitely give you poor battery life.

Still, the Acer Predator Helios 300 provides tremendous horsepower whilst being affordable. One of the best computers you can get for Blender.

Pros

Great Performance

Thinner & Lighter Than Before

Decent Display

Good Thermal Management

Cons

Acer Predator Helios 300 Review

Dell G3

Latest_Dell_G3 High Performance Gaming 15.6-inch FHD IPS Laptop with i5-8300H CPU, 8GB RAM, 1TB Hybrid HD with 8GB Cache, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 4GB Graphics, Windows 10

The Dell G3 is a budget gaming laptop with solid enough performance. It’s meant for those who are on a tight budget but still want a capable laptop. Well, the Dell G3 is certainly capable.

The 8th Gen i5-8300H quad-core processor is a powerful processor. Powerful because it is only 12 per cent slower than the 8th Gen hexacore i7 processor . So you don’t lose much in terms of CPU performance.

RAM is 8GB. And the best part is that you can easily upgrade the RAM to 16GB. This will allow the laptop to run in dual channel mode. Using RAM in dual channel mode gives it a significant performance boost.

The graphics card is an NVIDIA GTX 1050. It won’t give you stellar rendering times in Blender or other 3D modelling or rendering software.

But, it will still get the job done. For AAA title gaming, you have to reduce the settings to low for smooth gameplay.

The display is average at best. Not bad and not that great too. Brightness is also on the low side. Colour accuracy and reproduction are also average. To put it simply, the display is average.

Battery life on this is decent. It’s able to give a respectable 6-7 hours before requiring a recharge.

Overall, the strongest points of the Dell G3 is its performance and price. The Dell G3 could have been better in other areas. But, that means an increase in its price tag.

And to be honest, performance is what is in important in running Blender or similar software. And this laptop delivers whilst being affordable. A solid option if you are on a tight budget.

Pros

Affordable

Solid Performance

Decent Battery Life

Cons
