Here Are The Best Non-Resin High Resolution 3D Printers

MakerGear M2

MakerGear M2 Desktop 3D Printer

The MakerGear M2 is not for casual 3D printing. But meant for those who like to take 3D printing to the next level. That is being able to print works in fine detail and high resolution. A high precision printer that can extrude between 10 microns to 0.25mm in layer thickness.

This opens up a lot of options when it comes to detailing. In addition to that, it supports a lot of filament types opening up several options.

The MakerGear 3D printer is well-built made from a rigid steel chassis. Solid build quality that ensures you keep 3D printing your favourite designs for a long time. The 3D printer can also do large prints because of its large build volume.

The bed levelling, however, is great and annoying at the same time. Great because once you set it no further adjustments are required. Annoying because it is not auto-levelling and making adjustments is quite difficult.

Also, MakerGear M2 makes a lot of noise when working. And print times can be quite long especially if you want items with smooth layers. A price to pay for a high-resolution print because the finer the detail the more layers it has to print.

Still, the MakerGear M2 is one of the best high precision 3D printers. It might be expensive but the software and its ability to print less than 50 microns make it a solid choice.

Pros

Well-built

Great Accuracy & Tightness

Supports A Lot Of Filaments

Once Bed Level Has Been Spet No Further Adjustments Are Required

Cons

Loud Fan Noise

Pricey

Long Print Times

QIDI Tech X-Max

QIDI TECH Large Size Intelligent Industrial Grade 3D Printer New Model:X-max,5 Inch Touchscreen,WiFi Function,High Precision Printing with ABS,PLA,TPU,Flexible Filament,300x250x300mm

The QIDI Tech X-Max is a fantastic large printer for high detail prints. This 3D printer gets almost everything right. It’s able to print layer thickness from 50 microns to 0.4mm. 3D prints in this range are beautiful. In short, the print quality is superb. Furthermore, printing is not the only great thing about it.

Most printers make a lot of noise when working. But, the QIDI Tech X-Max is quiet. To be honest, it is rare to find a 3D printer with such a large build volume to work quietly. The QIDI Tech though can achieve this.

The bed levelling is also easy to do thanks to its semi-levelling auto-feature. So you don’t have to spend all your time and energy adjusting it. Turning the knob and screws does the trick. And you only need to do it a few times depending on what you are printing. You can also remove the bed.

Overall, the QIDI TECH X-Max is an awesome printer. But, it’s far from perfect. If you want a fast print you better skip this. Because the printing speed is slow. Not recommended if you want to fast 3D prints.

Secondly, the 3D printer is heavy and moving it around is difficult. Finally, the hotend is custom made making it difficult to repair or upgrade.

Still, the QIDI TECH X-max is highly-recommended if you want beautiful 3D miniature prints and a quiet machine.

Pros

QIDI Tech X-Max Review

Dremel Digilab 3D40 Flex

Dremel Digilab 3D40 Flex 3D Printer

If you are a beginner and want a 3D printer that can create high-quality prints. Then the Dremel Digilab is the best option. It is user-friendly, well-packaged and easy to set-up. Most of the assembly has been done so little is done on your part when setting it up.

The interface is easy to understand and the touchscreen is responsive. Now for the printing. The Dremel Digilab can produce consistent high-quality prints. It’s able to print layers of about 50 microns.

This makes it superb for 3D printing figurines, D&D minis, Warhammer models, etc. 3D prints that require high resolution and precision. Plus, it can do so quickly and reliably. Rarely, fails at printing.

The Dremel Digilab doesn’t have a large build volume. And so for large prints, it is not recommended. But, medium and small-sized prints are perfect for it. For the bed-levelling, the bed doesn’t need to be adjusted several times when printing. Because of its semi auto-level feature. It makes it easy to adjust and you don’t need to come back often to check on it.

However, there are a few things that can be considered as issues. First is the fact that the build plate doesn’t heat up. This can cause some major problems when printing certain filament materials if the bed is not at a certain temperature.

Fortunately and unfortunately, the Dremel Digilab doesn’t support those filament types which might be a good or bad thing for some people. It only supports PLA filament types.

And that brings us to the second issue. Dremel Digilab is designed to use only their filament brand type. It’s quite expensive and using third party filament types voids the warranty. You can use third-party PLA filament types but if it destroys the printer. The warranty won’t cover it.

Overall, the Dremel Digilab is easy to use, set-up, user-friendly and able to produce consistent fine detail 3D prints. One of the best 50 micron 3D printer for high definition printing.

Pros

User-friendly & Reliable

High-Quality 3D Prints

Well-Packaged & Minimal Assembly Required

Semi Auto-Level Bed

Cons

BIBO 3D Printer

BIBO 3D Printer Dual Extruder Laser Engraving Sturdy Frame WiFi Touch Screen Cut Printing Time in Half Filament Detect Demountable Glass Bed

Two major things plague the BIBO 3D printer. First is the documentation which is hard to follow. The instructions are not clear and you can easily get confused if you do not take your time. Secondly, it is difficult to clean.

There are a lot of gaps and corners that easily collect dust and print materials. The corners are also not easy to get into which makes cleaning a nightmare. Aside, from that, the BIBO is one of the best 50-micron 3D printers you can get.

It can produce beautiful 3D prints which come out clean. It also has dual extruders which can print two objects at the same time with the same speed and accuracy. This allows you to create multiple 3D print copies in a short amount of time.

Moreover, the 3D printer is well-built and even though the documentation isn’t that great. Surprisingly, it is easy to use and repair.

Finally, BIBO offers great customer support which is a major plus. Overall, aside from the cons mentioned in the beginning. The BIBO 3D printer is one of the best 3D printers for fine detail. A solid high-resolution FDM 3D printer.

ANYCUBIC Photon

ANYCUBIC Photon UV LCD 3D Printer Assembled Innovation with 2.8'' Smart Touch Color Screen Off-line Print 4.53'(L) x 2.56'(W) x 6.1'(H) Printing Size (Photon)

The ANYCUBIC Photon is one of the best high-resolution SLA/Resin 3D printers. First, let’s start with the issues.

SLA/Resin is a dangerous material and careless handling can be fatal. The room the 3D printer is located in has to be well-ventilated for the fumes to escape. You also need to wear eye protection and gloves during clean-up.

Clean-up is also taxing and needs to be carefully done. Methanol or isopropyl alcohol is needed to remove the uncured resin. It’s a messy business and the smell is horrible. Moreover, the resin is expensive.

Finally, you don’t get to see the object being made during 3D printing due to the glass. This might be off-putting because you might be the type that enjoys looking at it during printing.

Now for what the ANYCUBIC Photon gets right. The 3D printer is well-packaged and already assembled out of the box. This makes it great for beginners and for those who want to start printing immediately.

Furthermore, it is easy to set-up. The 3D printer is also well-made and has almost no moving parts. A solid 3D printer. Now for the most important part – printing.

The ANYCUBIC Photon can produce high definition and high-resolution 3D prints thanks to its accuracy. You can produce objects with fine detail. And it can extrude layers as thin as 25 microns.

To sum it all up, for an affordable 3D printer. The ANYCUBIC Photon can produce high detail prints. Also, the customer service is helpful, friendly and responds to problems to the best of their ability. A highly-recommended 3D printer if you are into fine detail resin/SLA printing.

ANYCUBIC Photon Review

Why Are Details or High-resolution Important?

High detail or high-resolution prints are important because it makes objects look great. The high detail 3D prints have great sharpness and detail. It also doesn’t look sloppy.

Ever enjoyed a YouTube video on a low resolution? Chances are you try to watch it on the highest resolution. Why? Because it looks great and it’s easy on the eyes. It’s the same thing for 3D prints. The better the detail the better it looks.

What Affects 3D Printer Resolution?

Two things affect 3D printing resolution.

Horizontal

Horizontal or XY resolution is the smallest movement the extruder nozzle can make in the horizontal plane in a given layer. The lower the value the higher the detail of your 3D print. Because the nozzle can print in small distances which translates to finer prints. The small the nozzle diameter the higher the horizontal resolution.

Vertical/Layer Thickness

3D printers print in layers. And layer thickness is how thick the layer is. Layer thickness is also known as layer height. The smaller the layer height or thickness the smoother and finer 3D print is. Any 3D printer than can extrude a layer thickness of between 10 to 50 microns can create high detail prints.

10 micron is the highest detail at the moment. The downside is that fine detail prints take a long time to finish since more layers have to be printed. For example, a 10 micron 3D print is going to take a longer time to finish than a 50-micron 3D print.

Conclusion

Everyone appreciates high detail 3D prints. Because it looks better, sharper and smoother. That’s it for the best 3D printers for fine detail.
