Why 3D Print Phone Cases

3D printing your phone cases allows you to easily customize it to your liking. To be honest, most phone cases on the market are bland looking.

3d printed phone case
3D Printed Smartphone Case

But, if you have a 3D printer that opens up options for you in terms of design. You could also start a business of making custom made 3D printer phones cases.

What Materials Can Be Used For Printing Phone Cases

The recommended material for 3D printing phone cases is TPU filament. NinjaFlex TPU filaments are great materials for making 3D printed phones cases. Nylon is also another great material but not a lot of 3D printers do not support it.

Plus, it quite difficult to 3D print unless you know what you are doing. You can also mix two material types to form a composite material. However, you should have sufficient experience before you try that out.

How Long Does It Take To 3D Print A Phone Case

It depends it can be from 20 minutes to 2-3 hours. The type of printing, speed of printer header, size of the phone case and quality of it affects the duration.

3D printing a high detail phone case with an awesome design is going to take much longer than a simple phone case. All the factors mentioned above affect how long it will take to 3D print it. The most important thing is if it comes out well.

Here Are The Best 3D Printers For Phones Cases

Monoprice Maker Ultimate 2

Monoprice Maker Ultimate 2 3D Printer - with (200 x 150 x 150 mm) Heated and Removable Glass Built Plate, Auto Bed Leveling, Internal Lighting & Built-in Filament Detector

The Monoprice Maker Ultimate 2 is the ultimate 3D printer for beginners and hobbyist. Because it is very easy to set-up. You could say a plug and play 3D printer since minimal assembly is done on your part.

However, the documentation lacks quite a bit of information. But that shouldn’t be a problem due to its easy set-up. It has an enclosed space and small build volume making it perfect for 3D printing phone cases and small objects.

Moreover, the enclosed spaced prevents dust and dirt from getting into your 3D prints. The Monoprice Maker Ultimate 2 can make high detail prints with high accuracy. It can print a layer thickness of 0.05 to 0.2mm. This means that you can 3D print high detail phone cases.

There is also a filament detector that pauses the extruder nozzle and informs you when the filament is finished.

The Monoprice Maker Ultimate 2 is a great 3D Printer. Unfortunately, it comes with downsides. First of all, it is a noisy 3D printer. Secondly, the bed is not a true auto-level. The printer does the calibration and tells you which springs to tighten or loosen underneath.

On the plus side, the heated bed makes up for it. Overall, the Monoprice Maker Ultimate 2 is a solid 3D printer with great value and excellent price point. Highly-recommended for making your phone cases and more.

Pros

Amazing Print Quality & Accuracy

Easy Set-up

Enclosed Space

Great For Beginners & Excellent Price Point

Cons

SainSmart x Creality Ender 3

SainSmart x Creality Ender-3 3D Printer, Resume Printing Prusa i3, for Home and School Use

The Creality Ender 3 is an affordable 3D printer for those on a budget. It gets a lot of things right and it’s able to produce high-quality 3D prints. The 3D printer also comes with a lot of parts and accessories.

This makes it possible to upgrade or mod the 3D to your liking. There is also a large community of Ender 3 users that provide a wealth of information on the 3D printer. Furthermore, the 3D printer is easy to assemble.

Once done you can start 3D printing right away. The material that makes up the 3D printer are strong ensuring that you print for a long time. Overall, Ender 3 is an almost perfect budget 3D printer.

The only thing is that it’s not able to handle long 3D prints with several layers on its normal speed. Because the accuracy reduces and causes the filament to form a mesh. To solve this problem you have to reduce the print speed. But, that also means longer prints times.

Aside from that, the Ender 3 is a solid budget 3D printer for phones cases, prototyping and more.

Pros

Great Print Quality

Large Community Of Ender 3 Users

Affordable & Easy To Set-up

Solid Build Quality

Cons

QIDI TECHNOLOGY 3D Printer, X-smart (Red color version): Fully Metal Structure, 3.5 Inch Touchscreen

The best thing about QIDI Technology is the removable bed. Having a removable bed means you can print as soon as the current one finish. All you have to do is remove it and put in a clean one and you are good to go.

Whiles the 3D printing is going on you then clean the removed one. This allows you to 3D print a lot of phone cases without pausing. A glass bed which is the best type of bed is recommended if you want spares.

The QIDI Tech 3D printer also has a feature called breakpoint printing. This allows the printer to save a point and continue later. A point is also automatically saved when there is a power outage. The build quality is solid and sturdy.

There is no shaking or wobbling. It’s also an enclosed printer that prevents heat from escaping and this makes it suitable for certain filament types. You can also remove the enclosure panels.

Regrettably, the 3D printer doesn’t come with a filament detector. So you have to manually check if it has run out. There is also the case of the spool holder which can only hold 64mm wide spools.

To sum it all up, QIDI Tech is easy to set-up and has enough accuracy and resolution to produce high detail prints. One of the best 3D printers that allow you to easily 3D print phone cases.

Pros

Sturdy Build

Breakpoint Printing

Heated & Removable Build Plate

Great Touchscreen

Cons

No Filament Detector

Spool Holder Can Only Hold 64mm wide Spools

Dremel Digilab 3D20

Dremel Digilab 3D20 3D Printer, Idea Builder for Brand New Hobbyists and Tinkerers

The Dremel Digilab 3D20 biggest strength is the fact that it is easy to set-up. The 3D printer already comes pre-assembled. All you have to do is unpack, load the filament and install the build plate. Basically, a plug & play set-up. This makes it perfect for beginners.

For advanced users, you will be pleased to know the Dremel Digilab allows modding. It is also able to produce high detail prints. Your 3D printed phone cases will look great since it will be able to print out the design well.

However, the build plate makes it difficult to remove the 3D prints due to the adhesive. Fortunately, Dremel included a tool to help remove 3D prints off the plate. But, you have to take your time with it.

Also, the 3D printer supports only 0.5 kg of Dremel filament types. To use third party filament types you have to externally mod it. Finally, the Dremel Digilab is a slow printer.

Overall, the Dremel Digilab 3D20 is a solid printer that is easy to set-up and can create high-quality 3D prints.

Pros

Plug & Play Set-up

JGMAKER Magic

JGMAKER Magic 3D Printer DIY Kit with Filament Run Out Detection Sensor and Resume Print Metal Base 3D Printers for Hobbist Education 220x220x250mm 110V US Plug

The JGMAKER Magic is an affordable 3D printer that is easy to assemble. To be honest, a beginner can do the assembly. But aside from that, you need to be great at tinkering. Because a few things that plague the 3D printer.

The reliability of the 3D printer is average in the sense that you will do a lot of DIY for it to be stable. Also, the software locks the printing speed at 30mm/s out of the box which makes it slow. Fortunately, you can change the settings and increase the speed to at most 100mm/s.

Finally, the printer base has to be covered in blue tape to produce consistent prints. You do this by heating the base and placing the blue painter's tape on it. If you can make these changes you automatically have one of the best affordable 3D printers.

It’s able to make decent 3D prints. Moreover, the bed levelling even though it’s not automatic is very easy to do. The JGMAKER Magic comes well-packaged and the materials that make it up are well-made. This makes the 3D printer have a sturdy build.

Overall, the JGMAKER Magic is an affordable 3D printer that gets the job done. At its price point, it is of great value. Just keep in mind that there will be some compromises.

Pros
